Rehabilitation Programs (Funded by a Third Party)
Depending
on the health circumstance of each referral, we evaluate the
participant and can provide a program
proposal
to the insurer, fee payer or participant
themselves.
Pre-Injury/illness activity history determines the ability
of the participant to include two or three times weekly
pool therapy into their schedules.
Participants who "worked out" before incapacity
finds it easier to adapt to a similar schedule. Someone
who
has
never participated in an exercise/fitness program will
need
additional encouragement to commit to on-going weekly therapy.
We also have to take the following situations into consideration,
when determining if a participant will benefit from our
program.
- Ability to drive, transportation to and from facility
(i.e. type of injury, pain medication)
- Other therapies/treatments on the same days as scheduled
pool therapy.
- Family obligation/responsibilities (child care issues)
- Support of family members (household duties)
- Depression, hopelessness, anxiety
- Body Image, feeling self conscious in a bathing suit
- Previous H2O experience
Currently, we get referrals that have not been successful
in traditional clinical therapy. Since they arrive
one to two years after diagnosis, it may take a longer
period of time to deal with a chronic condition. The participant
may be over-medicated or very fearful and guarded when
movement
is initiated. We focus on pain relief (in the water) and
relaxation techniques beneficial for most participants.
Early intervention is essential
for the conditioned participant as well as the de-conditioned.
Safe, effective non-weight bearing movement in
water is
appropriate for most conditions.
The duration of one to one Aquatic Exercise Therapy
is based on the participant/patient's age, ability, strength,
motivation and the type of condition requiring treatment.
Service
fees
are
based on the type of program and therapy required. Ask
for our fee for service information.
The physician and/or surgeon make the diagnosis and the
referral in some instances. Other referrals can come from
a physiatrist, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation
consultants. Several physical therapy clinics refer as
well
as the Peter Lougheed, Rockyview and Foothills Hospital
therapy departments.
Physicians wisely refer patients pre-surgery
to improve muscle tone and joint range of motion.
Appropriate MOVES in water strengthen all the muscles of
the body, not just one limb at a time.
We see significant improvement early on, since the individual needs of the
participant are addressed from the onset.
