Rehab While You
Wait
(Includes Pre/Post Hip, Knee and Back Surgery)
Aquatic
Exercise Therapy (AET) and treatments are modified depending
on the diagnosis and the overall condition of the participant.
Pre-surgical patients enter the program at
a different level than post-surgical. Conditioning
in water (before surgery) helps to improve
the outcome of the procedure due the improvement in muscle
tone. This proactive approach also motivates the participant
to continue exercising post-surgery.
Statistically, people may wait for hip/knee
replacements, sometimes a year or more. We treat people
pre and post surgery. Non-weight bearing exercise, for example,
strengthens the muscles supporting the knees prior to surgery.
The need for pain medication is reduced, stabilizing muscles
are stronger and the post surgery recovery time is usually
reduced. This also applies to back surgery. Core muscles are
stronger, in fact, we’ve had situations where back surgery
has not been required.
No need to just sit and wait for your call to
have your replacement or major orthopedic surgery.
The
non weight bearing activity (exercise) in our supervised
pool program allows for a better post surgery recovery.
Some doctors will encourage a return to our aqua-therapy
programs as soon as the incision has healed.
A doctor's referral is usually required for pre/post surgery
therapy.
