Our History
This concept of this type of program began in Regina,
Saskatchewan in January 1994, developed for the Regina
Chiropractic Back School. It received immediate
recognition by the local medical community.
Subsequently, Judy Doyle, was recruited by a Calgary Sports
Medicine Clinic to develop a similar program in Calgary.
The first programs began at The Renoir (retirement residence)
in May 1995.
We have been an independent service provider since July
1996. The program expanded and also operated out of the
Vocational Rehabilitation Research Institute (VRRI) in
the Northwest.
Our primary pool is now at the Lake Bonavista Village (since January 2004). We also provide sessions at the Emily Follensbee school September - June. We are mobile and can come to a suitable pool location near you.
We are a private service provider comprised of professionals
who have an understanding of living with physical limitations.
Judy and some of the Water Moves team live with
fibromyalgia and myofascial pain in their daily living.
Since 1996, Rehab services have been developed to include
a variety of complimentary therapies. Unique treatments
for individuals with common problems and vice versa.
"Programs are developed based on recognition of a
need first, adaptability to water secondly, but most important
are the people delivering the services. Water Moves attracts
service providers who have an ability and
awareness to treat people holistically in a
Rehab environment.
Non-visable limitations, such as I deal with on
a daily basis, can affect all aspects of your life.
Everything about Water Moves has been based on what type
of program I would have found beneficial when I was diagnosed
with Lupus in 1986. Turns out, I had Fibromyalgia,
not Lupus. Had someone coached me how to "move",
I would have learned to live~well and overcome
the pain associated with being un-well. Water Moves was
born from my desire to change my life pattern
and now we have helped hundreds of others to do the same."
